Reading Patrick Bringley’s All the Beauty in the World...

I just started reading Patrick Bringley’s All the Beauty in the World, and already, I feel like I’ve been transported into a quieter, more thoughtful version of life. The book chronicles Bringley’s time as a museum guard at the Met, and through his eyes, I’m beginning to notice the beauty that often hides in plain sight.

His story is more than just a look at famous art—it’s a meditation on the wonder of simply being present. I love how he captures the rhythm of standing still, of seeing people engage (or not) with masterpieces from across centuries. It’s the kind of book that slows you down in the best way, urging you to observe and absorb the world around you.

This morning, on my walk, I found myself seeing with new eyes. The way the golden light hit the trees, the sound of leaves skittering on the pavement, the laughter of a stranger down the block—it all felt a little more alive, a little more sacred.

If Bringley’s goal is to make us appreciate the hidden magic in the everyday, he’s succeeded with me already. I can’t wait to dive deeper into his reflections and maybe even spend more time visiting places like the Met myself. Until then, I’m going to keep looking for the beauty around me, even in the small things.

Have you ever read something that shifted your perspective like this? Let me know—I’d love to hear about it.
